Recode/ABC News/Reuters — In an effort to better understand how the pandemic is affecting the people of the United Kingdom, a charity group has launched a campaign to raise $100 million to help fight the coronaviral disease.
The charity, Goodwill, is making its campaign a direct response to the coronatavirus, with a focus on local people.
The goodwill donation will go directly to the local community, and it is set to kick off on March 15, the organization announced on its website Tuesday.
The campaign, which will be run in conjunction with Goodwill’s UK chapter, is a joint effort between the charity and the charity’s national chapter.
“The UK has a lot of potential for positive change and good things are happening, and I’m looking forward to seeing the results,” said Chris Ritchie, Goodwills global charity director, in a statement.
“This is a way for us to show that we can still do great things with the money we have and help make the world a better place.”
The charity’s new fundraising drive comes on the heels of a March 5 Goodwill Foundation announcement that it has donated more than $100.4 million to the fight against coronavosis, or CVD.
Goodwill announced a similar campaign last year, with about $10 million.
The latest campaign comes amid a national debate about whether the U.K. should move away from its traditional cash donation model, which has been around for more than a century.
It’s a controversial stance, as people in the U, S., and the world face a pandemic of CVD that has been linked to coronaviremia, or the coronivirus, as well as other diseases.
The U.S. has reported more than 3,000 cases of the disease, with more than 10,000 deaths.
The CDC estimates that there are more than 16 million cases of CVA in the world.
According to a U.N. report last year on the global pandemic, it’s not clear how the coronavemia outbreak has impacted the U., S., or global economy.
Goodwillas campaign comes in the wake of a similar effort in Canada, where the charity has been raising money for years for the fight with the help of a partnership with the Canadian Red Cross.
The Canadian Red Cares announced a new fund in February, which the charity hopes will be able to raise more than half of the charity budget in just five years.
“We need your support and you are the ones who will make this happen,” Goodwill said in a press release announcing the new fund.
“Goodwill will continue to provide life-saving care to Canadians through a variety of partners and organizations across the country.”
Goodwill hopes to raise another $40 million from donors in the next year.
